Tea with Milk by Allen Say
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
A young Japanese girl grows up in America but returns to Japan. She doesn't feel like she fits in anywhere. Her mother wants her to be Japanese, but the school kids make fun of her. Then her mother tries to force her to marry a man she doesn't like. She leaves and gets a job in a nearby city. There she meets a man she likes. They become friends and eventually marry. Their child tells the story. A story about making your home where ever you are and not relying on a house or a family, but on the people who love you, even if they aren't related.
