I love free contests where I just get to flex my creativity muscle. If practice makes perfect, someday I should be a really great writer. I am entering the Spring Fling Writing Contest. (You can find it here: https://sites.google.com/view/springflingwritingcontest/main). I had to locate a spring gif and then write a 150 or less word story about the gif. I hope you enjoy it. And yes, my love of dogs is showing.
The Guard Rabbit
I’m a brand new guard dog.
In the barnyard were cats, cows, and rabbits.
I marched over to introduce myself.
"Hi, everybody. I'm the brand new guard dog."
The cats paused.
Then laughed.
"What's so funny?" I demanded.
"You. Big tough guard dog." They laughed harder.
The cows chewed their cud and sniffed.
"On the small side."
"I'll grow!"
Bunny hopped over.
"I think you’d make a good guard rabbit." She placed
bunny ears on my head!
"What are you doing?" I asked.
"We have a guard dog. But we don't have a guard
rabbit." She pointed to an old mirror leaning against the barn.
"See? A guard rabbit."
I saw my reflection. She was right. I made a fierce guard
rabbit.
"Let's go patrol," I suggested.
We ran, played, and secured the perimeter.
"Look at those nestlings," cow chuckled.
Mama rabbit smiled. "You gotta love spring."
