Very wordy. But a lovely story about a family living in a barn and enjoying an apple tree, the fruits of it and climbing on it. Then a blizzard comes and an ice storm knocks the tree down. They use the wood as firewood but the girls are sad they can't climb the tree. Their wise father makes a drawing board out of the limb one girl used to sit on to draw, and he cut the vine down and brought it inside that the other girl used as a swing. It felt like Christmas after that.
