Our group, Astronomical Society of Eastern Missouri had its
annual picnic this past weekend. It was
a wonderful day, a prefect day for a picnic.
It started out cloudy and I had my doubts. It was also a little chilly, as if Fall were
sending us a warning, Hey, I’m on my way.
But when the sun came out, it was nice, and with a light jacket, was
perfect.
One of our fearless members grilled pork steaks while
everyone pitched in with pot luck items.
I made my famous potato salad, sans eggs,
celery, and any of my other allergens.
It was a mustard-based potato salad, and went fairly well. I made a fairly large amount and only brought
home a little bit.
There was a silent auction for items brought by club
members. Being bill rich and money poor
this month I did not participate.
Several members did bring their scopes out, which is always
fun. Several of the members made plans
to go afterward to one of our regular observing sites.
Everyone seemed to have a good time. I always enjoy just hanging out and talking
with different members and meeting new members that I don’t normally get to
talk to, or sometimes a member that hasn’t been to one of our other
events. New friends are always fun to
make.
So if you live in the area, or are planning a visit, and you
want to join the group, all are welcome.
You can see we have lots of fun and some great cooks which is a
bonus. If you need more information
check out their website at http://asemonline.org
or visit at the astronomy open house any Friday night at Broemmelsiek Park, http://www.sccmo.org/617/Broemmelsiek-Park. Hope to see you there!
