Indian Captive: The Story of Mary Jemison by Lois Lenski
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
An intense historical fiction based on true events of a young girl caught up in the days of white settlers and Indian wars. She becomes a captive of the "hated" Indians, only to discover that though their ways are different from white ways, there are reasons behind their actions that do make sense. She is adopted into their family. After several years, she learns her family was killed. She is given an opportunity to reunite with white people but decides to remain in the new home she knows and loves.
