Long Way Down by Jason Reynolds
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Told in poetic format, this poignant, disturbing glimpse of life in areas where gangs and shootings are a thing of everyday life. A young boy is following the "rules" his grandfather, father, uncle, and brother followed. They are all dead. At the end, you have to decide if he is dead already, about to join the dead with his actions, or if he is going to make a better choice. Very sad book, deeply moving. But I did enjoy it. Not something I would want to read all the time. I think I have to go read something uplifting now to pull me out of the pit of sadness that permeates this writing. A quick read due to its format.
