The Mermaid by Jan Brett
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Cute. A retelling of Goldilocks and the three bears, but it is the mermaid and the three octopodes (plural for octopus, I looked it up! Octopuses is also correct.) She eats the food, breaks a chair, then sleeps in the cradle. The octopodes return and she gives the baby her tiara and lets the string ray they were using for a hat go. Her puffer fish friend helps keep her safe.
I always wanted to be a mermaid when I was a kid. Still do sometimes. :-)
